Awards Night 2008

Our 25th Annual Display and Awards Evening takes place on Friday 5thth September at 7pm at the hall. All members need to be at the hall no later than 6.45pm in full, smart uniform. The evening will finish at around 8.30pm and refreshments will follow.

Our awards night is where we present to all those who have worked hard to earn their BB awards their badges and certificates. We also present a number of trophies including the Desmond Pontin Shield named in honour of our late Company President.

Following the events of July, our awards evening this year will of course have a different feel to it. On the night, we will be presenting two new awards named in honour of Tony and Piers. We are delighted that both Mrs. Clayton and Mrs. Calvert will be attending to present these awards.

We also welcome our special guests for the evening to make the presentations; Mr. Phil Tibbetts – Headteacher of the Market Weighton School and Councillor Marion Frith - Mayor of Market Weighton. Scarborough Band ‘The Fifth Revelation’ will also be joining us to lead our music for the evening.

We warmly invite all parents, families, friends and supporters of the Company to join us for what will be a particularly special awards night. Please note that the driveway to the Hall is currently closed as work begins on our Chapel redevelopment. Access to the hall is down the other side of the chapel. Car parking is available at the Market Place.

We look forward to seeing you all again on the 5th.

Warm Welcomes

We are proud to introduce our new Company Chaplain, Rev. Sue Pegg. Sue comes to us from West Yorkshire and we look forward to her working with our Company team.

Our former Company Chaplain, Mr. Alan Humphrey has now taken up the role of Company President. We thank him for the wonderful work he has done for us in his Chaplaincy and look forward to many more years working together.

Profiles of all our staff can be found on the 'Staff' page of our website.

Lieutenant Piers Calvert 1947 - 2008

With great sadness, I have to anncounce the death of Lieutenant Piers Calvert on 13th July 2008. He was 61. Hewas a gifted man who served both the Church and 1st Market Weighton Boys' Brigade for many years. He used his skills and natural talent to bring many young people to a knowledge of God. He was a musical man and loved to sing and play his guitar whenever the occasion allowed. He fought his battle with cancer bravely and has been an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed by his wife Madge, his children and grandchildren and all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Thank You

On behalf of my family, I wish to thank all of those people who have sent messages of sympathy to my family and I. Every one has been read and has meant so much. They have helped us all to get through a very difficult time.

His funeral was simply remarkable and a testament to what a great man he was.

Thank you for all the love and prayers. They have meant the world to us.

Tom

Chuffing Trains

Our Seniors have recently returned from Firm Foundations 2008 at BBHQ, Hemel Hempstead.

In a weekend of fantastic music and leaky tents, we joined with hundreds of others and had an amazing time.

On the weekend of Hull City reaching the Premier League (Scarborough will be joining them soon) we took part in many activities such as rodeo surfing, archery and celebrating Giant Bradley Day in a very wet and leaky tent.

Tom had a good rant about trains, the other Tom had a good rant about having to both wake up AND get up (and about being goded) and Becki pulled up the guide ropes on the boys tent after they played just a small joke at 2am.

As always the FF games provided much entertainment. Rummy with our friends from Scarborough and Huddersfield, Tom's game that is definately not called Blackjack and some game that Becki did but no-one really listened to..."Have I won yet?"

Lots of networking was done with many big names including the Big E, the Big C on his wall and even the Big S.

Many Thanks also to World Vision who provided us with two fantastic T-Shirts.

Well done to the speakers at FF this year who played HopGear, ate baby food, blowed smoothie at each other with a hose pipe and also provided us with some inspirational messages.

Thanks also to the band Blush for helping baby Tom make it through the night and to the immense Sounds of Salvation - the highlight of the festival.

Once again the food and drink was 'right up there'. Many a pitcher of cocktail and a full works hot chocolate was shared as well as some hash browns of true quality.

We left knowing that Amos 5 is a truly relevant read for some people in the church today, that asking Becki to be quiet is a dangerous thing and that a small change can make a big difference.

Here's to FF2009 - Priceless and the new FF in the North - 'Northern Saints'

What a Chuffing Great Holiday

20 members of MWBB have just wearlily returned from our very special jubilee company holiday to The Emmaus Centre near Scarborough.

It truly had it all from Lightwater Vally to leg infections.

The pictures from the week are now in our gallery including the 18 pints of milk that visited Scarborough Castle with the Juniors, the night hike of terror, our chubby bunnies and the legendary quiz.
